Jefferson Cup rapid reaction: Mr. Misunderstood improves to six for six on turf

The victories just keep coming for Mr. Misunderstood, who is now six for six on the grass after winning the $100,000 Jefferson Cup in authoritative fashion Saturday at Churchill Downs under Florent Geroux.

Granted, there were few stars in this lineup - an ungraded race - but there is no disputing that Mr. Misunderstood has developed into a quality 3-year-old grass horse, particularly when placed in the right spot. He lowers his head in the stretch and has an obvious determination to win.

Hard to believe but this horse twice raced for a price at Fair Grounds this past winter - for $30,000 and later $50,000 - but there were no takers at the claims box.

The winner, a 3-year-old gelded son of Archarcharch trained by Brad Cox, raced 1 1/8 miles on a firm turf course in 1:47.78. He paid $4.40.

Adonis Creed, another Cox trainee, ran second and was followed by Giant Payday in third.
