Santa Anita: Gonna Fly Now returns after 47-month layoff

The 8-year-old gelding Gonna Fly Now starts for the first time in nearly four years in Sunday's second race, an optional claimer at 6 1-2 furlongs.

Gonna Fly Now (6)has been off so long that his last race was in November, 2013 at Hollywood Park, a month before it closed.

Now trained by Bob Hess, Jr., Gonna Fly Now was sidelined by injury and was briefly in training as a show horse. He was a good sprinter in 2013, finishing third in the Grade 2 Pat O'Brien Stakes at seven furlongs behind Fed Biz and Goldencents.

Gonna Fly Now was briefly in training in 2015. He has worked well in recent weeks since returning to training, including a half-mile in 47 seconds on Oct. 9.
