U S Navy Flag, the multiple Group 1-winning 2-year-old on his way to Del Mar from Ireland along with 12 other Aidan O'Brien-trained intended Breeders' Cup starters, will race Saturday in the BC Juvenile. U S Navy Flag was entered with first preference in the Juvenile Turf and second preference in the Juvenile, while the preference order was the opposite for O'Brien's second BC-bound 2-year-old colt, Mendelssohn. But it is Mendelssohn, who finished second to U S Navy Flag last out in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes, that will bear the Coolmore colors in the Juvenile Turf.
Nelson, who was among the pre-entrants that were part of the main body of the Juvenile Turf field, did not ship from Ireland. That opens two starting spots to horses not part of the 14 pre-entrants that had a slot in the race, and allows My Boy Jack and Snapper Sinclair to get into Friday's one-mile grass race.
