Antonie Hamelin, a top 10 rider in France this year, will have his first mount in the United States aboard Miss Julia Star in Sunday's Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at Del Mar.
Hamelin is familiar with the 3-year-old filly, having ridden her to three consecutive win in France from late July to mid-October. Miss Julia Star, who races for Team Valor International partnership and Marsha Naify, was recently transferred to trainer Neil Drysdale.
Bruno de Montzey trained Miss Julia Star in France. The filly has won 4 of 12 starts. The current winning streak occurred in races from seven furlongs to a mile. The $300,000 Matriarch Stakes for fillies and mares is run at a mile on turf.
Hamelin has won 71 races this year, slightly less than his 76 victories in 2016. Hamelin rode at Saint-Cloud Racecourse in Paris on Friday before traveling to California.
Earlier this year, Hamelin won the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot on Different League. Miss Julia Star is his most successful runner this year.
