It was cool to see Moonlit Promise win her third consecutive stakes in the G2 Bessarabian, when you consider that her dam, Smart Surprise, won the seven-furlong event when it was ungraded in 2008.
Moonlit Promise will be a Sovereign Award finalist for this year's Canadian champion female sprinter, but the award will go to her more accomplished stablemate, Ami's Mesa, who lost the G1 BC Filly and Mare Sprint by a whisker.
By Malibu Moon, Moonlit Promise hails from the top family of classic winners A.P. Indy and Summer Squall, along with former Ontario sire Court Vision.
Trainer Santino DiPaola won his first race with 9-1 shot D's Double Eagle in the nightcap.
Trainer Mark Casse scored twice and is five wins ahead of Norm McKnight in the battle for leading trainer.
Patrick Husbands rode the two Casse winners. Jesse Campbell and David Moran also doubled up.
The Jackpot Hi 5 carryover heading into Wednesday is $86K.
