Off Limits won for the fourth straight time and earned the first Grade 1 victory of her career in her first try at that level when rallying from last to first to capture the Matriarch Stakes, the richest and best race of the closing-day card at Del Mar.
Off Limits ($11.20) got a sweet ride from Joel Rosario, who only had to come around one horse on the far turn and then split rivals in mid-stretch aboard Off Limits. Off Limits reeled in Hawksmoor in the final sixteenth and went on to win by a length.
Hawkmoor held on for second, a half-length in front of Insta Erma. Cambodia, the 5-2 favorite, was fourth. There were 11 runners in this race for older females.
Chad Brown trains Off Limits for Martin Schwartz.
She was timed in 1:34.37 for one mile on firm turf and has now won seven times in 17 starts.
Off Limits, 5, is by Mastercraftsman. She was bred in Ireland and raced there the first part of her career before coming to the US over the winter of 2016.
