Dominique Geroux, a retired jockey and the father of Fair Grounds-based rider Florent Geroux, died Friday morning in France, according to Doug Bredar, agent for Florent Geroux.
Florent Geroux last rode Tuesday and left for France to tend to his father, who fell on Christmas morning. Dominique Geroux was 67 and a former jockey and trainer, said Bredar. He died in his hometown of Amiens, France, which is about 75 miles north of Paris, estimated Bredar.
"Florent and his wife are planning the services as we speak," Bredar said. "They will be sometime next week."
Bredar said Florent Geroux would be off his mounts at least through Monday. The rider won the Breeders' Cup Classic in November, aboard Gun Runner.
