Mesut, named for Arsenal star Mesut Ozil, won Friday's third race for 2-year-olds on the hillside turf course in a mild upset.
The third choice in a field of eight, Mesut ($17.40) edged 5-2 Cascade Rock to win for the first time in his third start. Mesut was ridden by Evin Roman for Santa Anita chairman Keith Brackpol and trainer Carla Gaines.
Mesut won the first leg of a pick six that began with a carryover of $95,855 from Tuesday. Bettors added $371,832 to the pool on Friday.
Mesut is a gelding by Gio Ponti.
