Quick peek, Sunday at Santa Anita …
Race 1 – Maiden 3yos sprint on the downhill turf, the favorites should lock up the race. Eskimo Roses (5) will set/press the pace; Jungle Warfare (1) will rally.
Race 2 – Hardcore Troubador (3) is favored in this Calbred N1X sprint off a daylight maiden win at Del Mar. Six others from that race ran back; only one hit the board. Swiss Minister (7) gets off the rail with an upset chance at 6-1.
Race 4 – Cordiality (9) and Moonless Sky (3) look solid in N2X filly-mare turf mile. However, two longshots lurk. Arch of Troy (5) is trained by one of the best-kept secrets in California; Princess Princess (7) makes her California debut.
Arch of Troy is a 12-1 shot trained by Mark Tsagalakis, whose runners produced a flat-bet profit 12 of the past 20 years; his two-decade cumulative ROI is a whopping $3.04 while winning at a 10-percent clip. Arch of Troy won two of her last three at $35.80 and $19.80. Tsagalakis is always a “must use.”
Princess Princess is a 10-1 shot making her local debut for trainer Richard Baltas. The mare’s speed figures in Kentucky suggest she fits perfect in this California N2X.
Race 8 – A deep field of 3yo fillies sprint 7f in this G2; the race could set up for closers Midnight Bisou (8) or favorite Win the War (7). Meanwhile, the speed of the speed is War Heroine (5), who is drawn outside pace rival Artistic Diva (1). Midnight Bisou switches to Mike Smith following a tough-trip runner-up finish under Rafael Bejarano. The "must-use" runners are Midnight Bisou and War Heroine.
(Late scratch: Artistic Diva is out, which puts War Heroine loose on the lead.)
