Laurel Park is scheduled to race for the first time in more than a week Sunday, but it isn’t going to be easy for man nor beast.
Temperatures in Laurel, Md., got down into the lower single digits Sunday morning and at 10:30 a.m. the mercury was 14 degrees. The forecast high for the afternoon is 23.
The Laurel Park fall meet had been scheduled to end Dec. 31, triggering a mandatory payout day - but that card was canceled due to weather conditions. Instead, all multi-race wagers ending on the last race today, and the Super Hi 5 pool on the race 9 finale, will be paid out regardless of how many winners are correctly selected.
There is a carryover of $3,998 in the Rainbow 6, which will be paid to however many people pick the most winners, and a Super Hi 5 carryover of $2,341 coming into the card's first race. There will be rolling Super Hi 5's on all races with at least seven betting interests.
Laurel will also race Monday this week to make up for the cancellation of last Friday's card. The co-features are the twice rescheduled $100,000 Dave's Friend and the $100,000 thirty Eight Go Go.
