It is sunny and in the 30s at Oaklawn, where the track is fast.
Sporting Chance warmed up accompanied by a pony, then turned around and went into his drill at the half-mile pole. He went by himself, and covered a half-mile in 47.60 seconds. Oaklawn's clocking staff had the horse's final quarter in 23 seconds, and galloping out five-eighths in 1:00.40.
Gary Stevens was aboard for trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
Lukas said Monday that Sporting Chance's first start of the year will be decided based on how he progreses in his training, with options the Southwest next month at Oaklawn and the Rebel in March.
Lukas also said Bravazo, the Breeders' Futurity runner-up who won an allowance Saturday at Oaklawn, would now move back into stakes company, with the race to be determined.
