Violent Ridge, the even-money favorite, won Monday's third race for 3-year-old maidens at six furlongs, beating the first-time starter Faversham - a full-brother to 2016 Horse of the year California Chrome.
Violent Ridge ($4.20) was timed in 1:11.17 and rallied wide to win by 1 1-4 lengths over Faversham, who races for Perry and Denise Martin and trainer Art Sherman.
Faversham with interest from the back of the field, a performance that suggested he would prefer more distance.
Violent Ridge, a gelding by Violence, had his third start on Monday, having finished second and third in his first two races. Violent Ridge is owned B G Stables and was trainer Hector Palma's second win in the first four races.
Faversham, a ridgling, was the 8-1 fourth choice in a field of eight.
