Lombo ($7.20) won for the first time in his third start in Saturday's second race, a maiden race at 6 1-2 furlongs.
Ridden by Kent Desormeaux for trainer Mike Pender, Lombo pulled clear in the final furlong to win by 3 1-2 lengths over 10-1 Soltero. Route Six Six, a 3-1 chance, finished third in the field of six. Masked, the 9-5 favorite and a first-time starter, was never in contention and faded to finish fifth.
Lombo, who races for Michael Lombardi, was purchased for $75,000 at the Ocala Breeders' Sale of 2-year-olds in-training last March. Lombo was seventh in his debut at Del Mar in a five-furlong maiden race on turf on Nov. 10, and third in a maiden race for horses purchased for $100,000 at public auction and homebreds here at six furlongs on Jan. 1.
