Saturday's first race at Aqueduct ran with only four horses because the stewards scratched both horses entered by trainer Linda Rice for varying reasons.
For Honor, the 5-2 morning-line favorite, was scratched because she had been given an oral tranquilizer earlier in the week, which, according to Rice, takes longer to matabolize in a horses's system. Thus, had the horse, run she likely would have tested positive.
Rice said this race was put as an extra and she wasn't definite she was going to even enter the 4-year-old filly.
Littlefirefighter was scratched because owenr Iris Smith apparenlty came down with seller's remorse as she did not want to run the horse for a claiming price, Rice said. She was in for $25,000.
The stewards said they plan to meet with Rice this week regarding these scratches,, which created a four-horse field. The race was won by Tiz Rae Anna ($5.70).
"She's got to speak to us about both horses," Steve Lewandowski, the steward for the New York Gaming Commission.
