One of three plays in my Weekend Warrior column, and a key to my Gulfstream late pick 4 play, which can be found elsewhere on drf.com, is Marley's Freedom in the Hurricane Bertie Stakes, race 9, and the first leg of this late pick 4 sequence.
I understand the appeal of Curlin's Approval. She comes into the Hurricane Bertie with a career record of 7 wins from 11 starts on Gulfstream's main track. But I just think Marley's Freedom's very decent fourth in the Grade 1 La Brea last time out jumps off the page here, as she finished behind a trio in Unique Bella, Paradise Woods, and Mopotism that are simply significantly better than anyone Marley's Freedom faces in the Hurricane Bertie, and that includes Curlin's Approval.
I was frankly shocked when I saw a morning line price of 10-1 hung on Marley's Freedom. And as excpected (unfortunately) that was just a hopeful dream. Off the double possibles going into the Hurricane Bertie, Marley's Freedom is the clear second choice behind Curlin's Approval, as she should be.
