Today's the day that so many horsemen and racing fans had circled on their calendars during the dreary winter months of January and February: It's Fountain of Youth Day, with Gulfstream celebrating by running, count 'em, fourteen (14) races on a card that starts at 11:30 a.m. ET and will end with the big race itself at around 6:10.

GOOD MAGIC, the 2017 BC Juvenile winner and 2yo champion, figures as an odds-on favorite in the Fountain of Youth, especially now that one of his top would-be challengers, FREE DROP BILLY, has been scratched. A field of 9 is now set for the G2, $400,000 Fountain of Youth, which offers 85 Ky. Derby eligibility points, including 50 to the winner.

Free Drop Billy now is headed for the Gotham at Aqueduct next Saturday, along, apparently, with his Romans stablemate, COVE BLUE. Trainer Dale Romans worked them both five furlongs, as well as TIZ MISCHIEF, who is headed for the Tampa Bay Derby next Saturday. The Fountain of Youth is the last of 9 stakes, all but one of them graded, on this marathon card. The first of those stakes is the G3 The Very One, which goes at 1 ET as R4.

The Rainbow 6, which carries a $3 million pool guarantee for a solo sweep, spans races 9-14. Other pool guarantees today are the late pick-4 (R11-14), $750,000, and the late pick-5 (R10-14), $500,000. The track should have no trouble attracting the handle to cover all these guarantees.

Once again it's a great weather day here in south Florida, and as an added bonus, it's not as hot as in recent weeks. The high temp today is projected at 76, down about 10 degrees from what's been the norm. The main track will be fast and the turf will be firm all day.
