Several barns at The Thoroughbred Center in Lexington, Ky. remain under quarantine for the equine herpesvirus (EVH1), Kentucky Agriculture official Rusty Ford said Saturday in a statement. One of the three barns is for horses that have tested positive, and have since been isolated from the general population, while the two others are for those horses that could have been exposed to horses that had carried EVH1.
Ford said tests are scheduled for next week. If over two weeks pass without a test showing the virus among the horses in a given barn, the quarantine of that barn can be lifted.
The horses showing no signs of the virus have been allowed to train separate from other horses at the facility, which serves as a training center, with most horses from there racing at Turfway and Mahoning Valley in the winter months.
