There was a three-horse spill in the stretch of the eighth race at Laurel Park on Saturday.
Gato Dolce, who was fighting for the lead outside Royal Crusader in the vicinity of the eighth pole, appeared to take a bad step and fell, throwing jockey Edwin Gonzalez to the ground. Chargin Storm, then fell over Gato Dolce, unseating Elvis Trujillo. My Train, with jockey Steve Hamilton up, fell over the two fallen horses.
After several minutes, Gonzalez and Trujillo got to their feet. Hamilton was down longer but was helped to his feet and to a waiting ambulance.
Gonzalez was unhurt and Trujillo was sore and taken for X-rays on his shoulder, according to jockey agent Kevin Witte, who represents both riders.
Hamilton has some neck pain but basically appears to be okay, according to his agent, Ben Feliciano Jr., who was with him in the emergency room.
Gato Dolce was euthanized. According to observers, Chargin Storm and My Train got to their feet after the accident, ran off, and were caught and brought back by the outriders.
