Bolt d'Oro, winner by disqualification of McKinzie in the San Felipe on Saturday at Santa Anita, came out of the race in good condition and will make his next start, as previously planned, in the Santa Anita Derby on April 7, his owner and trainer, Mick Ruis, said Sunday morning.
"To think that nine weeks ago he was getting a nuclear scan," Ruis remarked at Clocker's Corner on Sunday. "He's good today. Legs are ice cold, he was nipping at me. I'm super happy."
Ruis said that even if Bolt d'Oro hadn't been declared the winner, "I was proud he got that close to McKinzie" in his first start since the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.
