Gotham winnner Enticed will return to the Palm Meadows training center in south Florida on Monday but he "most likely" will return to New York for the Grade 2 Wood Memorial on April 7, trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said Sunday morning.
McLaughlin, speaking from Florida, said the reason to ship back is "because he did well from here to there so we'll train here and look at the Wood Memorial."
McLaughlin said reports from assistant Joe Lee were that Enticed was in good shape Sunday morning.
Enticed won the Gotham by 2 3-4 lengths and was assigned a 95 Beyer Speed Figure for the performance after running a mile in 1:38.24.
The Wood purse is $750,000 but it increases to $1 million provided a Grade 1 winner participates in the race. Firenze Fire, winner of the Grade 1 Champagne last fall and fourth in the Gotham, is expected to run in the Wood.
Old Time Revival, the 35-1 longshot who set the pace in the Gotham and finished second, is also being pointed to the Wood, according to trainer Ken Decker.
Free Drop Billy, third in the Gotham as the 9-5 favorite, will return to Florida Monday and is expected to make his next start in the Grade 2 Blue Grass at Keeneland on April 7. Free Drop Billy won the G1 Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland last fall.
