The Rainbow 6 jackpot continues to be the big story here at Gulfstream during an otherwise relatively quiet period. The Rainbow pool, unswept since the Jan. 28 forceout, soared past the $3M mark Sunday and now stands at $3,102,400 for the start of another five-day week that gets under way here with an 11-race card (first post, 12:35 ET). You'd have to expect another $600,000 to $800,000 or so in fresh wagers today on a sequence that spans races 6 to 11.
Conditions are the usual fast 'n' firm, and although it's been cooler the last few days than what is seasonable, it'll still be another great day afternoon in SoFla, with sunny skies prevailing and the high to reach about 73 by late afternoon.
Easily the most notable scratch today in the Rainbow 6 sequence is VARIANT PERCEPTION, who has been declared out of R7 by Chad Brown. Only 5 starters remain in that race.
Here is the full slate of early scratches: R1-(3); R5-(1); R6-(5, 11, 12); R7-(2, 6); R10-(7).
The feature this coming weekend is the G2 Inside Information, a 7-furlong race to be run Saturday with a small field of fillies and mares. Likely entrants include JORDAN'S HENNY, JUST BE KIND, and IVY BELL, with the latter making her first start for Todd Pletcher since being privately purchased.
The next big stakes date here is March 31, with 7 stakes highlighted by the Florida Derby. Gulf officials have said they most likely will disperse the Rainbow that weekend, although the specific date has yet to be announced. The championship meet ends Sun., April 1, but that's Easter Sunday, when many horseplayers across the landscape will be indisposed.
