GRAN KING OF KINGS led off the Rainbow 6 sequence (R5-10) today by winning the opening leg under Tyler Gaffalione, returning $6.80 as 2ND choice in a field of seven. The full results were 3-1-2-4, with a seemingly frivolous objection by the trainer and jockey of the runner-up, PEACE ACCORD, being quickly dismissed by the Gulf stewards.
A total of $425,374 in new bets chasing a jackpot rollover of nearly $3.8 million was placed prior to R5; the jackpot is on par to hit the $4 million mark by Friday or so. The Rainbow 6 has not been emptied since Jan. 28, when nearly $20 million was dispersed. The next "forceout" is scheduled for March 31, Florida Derby Day.
