Leofric (#6) will be scratched from the New Orleans Handicap, race 8 today at Fair Grounds, because of a foot issue. "He missed a little training and will not run today," trainer Brad Cox said. That leaves just five in the first leg of an all-stakes pick four, with The Player (#1) and Good Samaritan (#5) sure to be the two defined favorites.

Patrona Margarita (#5) will be scratched from the Fair Grounds Oaks, race 10. Trainer Bret Calhoun said a minor cut on the filly's hind ankle got infected and required treatment with antibiotics. Patrona Margarita has remained in training but isn't fit to race Saturday, Calhoun said. Calhoun also starts likely Oaks favorite Classy Act (#1) and said "everything is good" with that filly.

Testing One Two (#7) also will be scratched from the Fair Grounds Oaks, track racing officials said, and runs instead in the Crescent City Oaks, race 2, where she's nearly certain to be favored.

Marmello was cross-entered in a maiden special weight, race 4, and the Louisiana Derby; he'll be scratched from the maiden race and will start as a longshot in the $1 million La. Derby, race 11.
