Meydan: Five American sprinters, including Roy H and Mind Your Biscuits, in Tuesday works

Trainer Peter Miller arrived in Dubai on Monday night an wasted little time getting down to business, working all four of his Dubai World Cup card starters on Tuesday morning at Meydan. Chief among them was one of the stars of the night, champion sprinter Roy H, who will started favored Saturday un the $2 million Golden Shaheen.

Miller had jockeys Kent Desormeaux and Victor Espinoza work his horses. Richard's Boy and Conquest Tsunami breezed during the early training window, just after 5 a.m., both going about three furlongs on dirt - but not without some confusion. Desormeaux and Espinoza apparently initially believed they were meant to work on turf, and they took the horses onto the grass course and back-tracked there before Miller politely redirected them onto the main track. Miller had a watch on the horses and said both had gone in about 36 seconds for three furlongs.

He also made no bones about the fact he believes Conquest Tsunami is his best hope to win the Al Quoz.

Miller's second set included Roy H, who went with a pony and had race rider Desormeaux aboard, and Stormy Liberal, who had Espinoza (who rides Conquest Tsunami in the Al Quoz) and no pony. Roy H worked first, breaking off about 650 meters before the wire and going 600 meters, about three furlongs, in roughly 37 seconds on Miller's watch. Roy H looked great. Miller said he hasn't appeared to lose any weight or condition shipping here, and he seemed relaxed and focused breezing. Roy H is a very fast horse in the afternon who is willing to work slow - at least for Desormeaux.

"Kent's got him. He can do anything he wants with the horse. He's just got such great hands," Miller said.

Stormy Liberal worked faster than Roy H. - faster, in fact, than Miller wanted. Miller did say he appears to have shipped better to Dubai than he did to Hong Kong in December, when Stormy Liberal was no factor in the Hong Kong Sprint. He also suggested that the horse's owner, Rockingham Ranch, might've been keener on making this trip than their trainer.

It's possible we won't see any of the Miller-trained quartet again until Saturday evening. Wednesday is a natural walk day following a work day, and Miller, rather than treking all the way back to Meydan to train on Thursday and Friday, could keep the horses back at the quarantine facility for light exercise on the eighth-mile Tapeta oval there.

Also working just after 5:00 Tuesday was the 2017 Shaheen winner Mind Your Biscuits, who blew out about a quarter-mile down the homestretch and galloped out around the turn. Trainer Chad Summers didn't time the drill, but was plenty pleased with his horse.

"He's a different horse now than he used to be. He does everything so easily," Summers said.

It did look like Mind Your Biscuits went easily. He gets over this surface very well and had really good energy Tuesday, appearing to enjoy his chance to run fast. Roy H will be formidable in the Shaheen, but Mind Your Biscuits has a chance to repeat his 2017 success.

Summers plans to bring Mind Your Biscuits back to the main track on Wednesday, but that probably will be the last exercise Mind Your Biscuits does this week outside the quarantine facility. Summers foun a winning formula last year, and will hope it works again.
