Meydan: Quick run through some of the Dubai World Cup field's Tuesday activity

West Coast stayed in the quarantine facility a day after working about a half-mile over the Meydan main track. Trainer Bob Baffert said West Coast had come out of the work in good shape, so don't get concerned when West Coast doesn't show up at the main track again Wednesday. Baffert, like most American horsemen that have come to Meydan, is not a huge fan of the long trek from the quarantine facilities to the main track, and barring a change in plans he'll give West Coast another easy day before taking the colt back to the main track Thursday and Friday. There's an eighth-mile oval synthetic surface training track inside the quarantine facility that's just fine for light exercise. The Baffert-trained Mubtaahij didn't work Monday, but he just had a race March 10 and is on the same schedule as West Coast.

Forever Unbridled was one of the last horses out during the first of two training windows open to international shippers. She went with a pony, backtracked, and was turned loose for a 1 5/8 mile gallop, which was both farther, faster, and better-looking than the mare's 1 1/4 gallop Monday. Trainer Dallas Stewart told rider Pedro Velez to let Forever Unbridled pick up her pace late in the gallop, which she did, and as Forever Unbridled was allowed to run a little faster, it sparked her to life. As Velez asked his mount to slow down and start to pull up, the mare asked to be let loose and run, a nice positive sign. Nearing the end of her exercise, Forever Unbridled was blowing less Tuesday than Monday despite training harder, and while she will never be called a pretty mover at a gallop, the faster she goes, the better she looks. Stewart reported that the mare is cleaning her feed and drinking a lot of water, and seems to have come through her travel in fine form.

Gunnevera has a slow, measured 1 5/8 mile gallop during the later training window as trainer Antonio Sano watched his horse exercise for the first time in Dubai. Sano arrived Monday evening and came directly to see Gunnevera; he said his horse was slightly lighter than when he left Florida, but that he had not lost any conditioning, and that Gunnevera day by day was putting back on the weight he dropped from shipping. No fast work for Gunnevera this week, but after today's controlled gallop, Gunnevera will have a stronger open gallop Wednesday morning.

Pavel sweats, but that's apparently just him, and he comes out during the later training period when the sun has come up and the temperature already is on the rise. He had a moderate gallop Tuesday and assisant trainer Leandro Mora, who has been to Dubai many times, said Pavel has handled the travel well.
