Owner Sol Kumin will have two rooting interests in Saturday’s Florida Derby as his Head of Plains Partners has bought into Holy Bull winner Audible. That was part of a deal with WinStar Farm that also includes the exciting West Coast-based 3-year-old Justify, who is pointing to the Arkansas Derby on April 14.
The deal was done several weeks ago, shortly after it was announced that Starlight Racing had also bought a piece of both horses.
Audible drew post 8 and was installed as the 9-5 morning-line favorite for Saturday's Florida Derby.
Kumin, under the moniker Madaket Stables, also is part-owner of Catholic Boy, who is running in the Florida Derby. Catholic Boy drew post 6 and was amde the 7-2 morning-line third choice in the Florida Derby.
“It gives you two shots at a million bucks and two shots at getting to the [Kentucky] Derby,” said Kumin, who also owns part-interest in Derby prospect My Boy Jack and Kentucky Oaks contender Monomoy Girl. “I’m going to show up that day and hopefully one of them gets in the winner’s circle and hope they run 1-2 so they both get into the Derby.”
