Diamond King, the 2/1 favorite, held off late-running Holland Park to win the $150,000 Federico Tesio Stakes just now at Laurel Park. Diamond King, trained by John Servis and ridden by Frankie Pennington, was coming back from a layoff and had never completed a race around two turns, and Servis was concerned about the colt's fitness to go nine furlongs today. But after pressing the moderate pace set by Noble Commander, Diamond King forged to the front and finished well enough, stopping the timer in 1:50.31. Since his connections had Kentucky Derby aspirations it'll be no surprise if his next start comes in the Preakness Stakes.
