Jessies First Down, the two-time World Champion Quarter Horse, launches his season Saturday night in the Grade 1, $100,000 Leo Stakes at Remington Park in Oklahoma City.
Jessies First Down, who is now 7, last raced Dec. 31 in the Grade 1 Championship at Sunland Park. He finished third but was placed second following a disqualification. Prior to the start, Jessies First Down, who broke slowly at Sunland, won the Grade 1 All American Gold Cup at Ruidoso, the Downs at Albuquerque Fall Championship and the Grade 1 Zia Park Distance Championship.
The Leo, which will be run over 400 yards, goes as the 11th race on a 12-race program. The field also includes last year's winner, Bodacious Eagle.
Jessies First Down is a winner of 15 of 34 starts and an earner of $1 million. He races for Ted Abrams, is trained by Jimmy Padgett and will break from post 6 under Rodrigo Vallejo.
