A few interesting plays Saturday at Santa Anita …
Race 1 – My Masterpiece (7) is the top choice at 4-1 in this claiming turf sprint, but sharp An Eddie Surprise (4) is a must-use at 7-2. Taking a stand against class-drop favorite Mraseel (8),
Race 2 – Doubt Royal Seeker (4) can win this maiden-20, but the 20-1 outsider is fast enough to hit the board under top choice Lucky Sun (2) or tough-trip-last-out Borg (8).
Race 3 – First-time gelding Real Quick (2) worked very well since the “equipment change.” Listed at 8-1, he is worth tinkering with. Fender Bender (1) the one to beat.
Race 4 – Wide-open G3 turf marathon for fillies and mares, Plein Air (6) is the speed, and the class. However, trainer Richard Baltas entered four. One of those could be on a “rabbit” mission. This handicapper will use “all.”
Race 5 – Dr. Dorr (4) is a complete and total standout as lone speed in the G2 Californian. Expect odds lower than his 8-5 program price.
Race 6 – Hootie (6) is the right favorite in this N1X turf route, while Marckie’s Water (4) reportedly is working super for his comeback. He is “live” at 8-1.
Race 8 – Jimmy Chila (11) shortens in distance and drops in class as the deserving chalk in this maiden turf sprint. For an upset candidate, Englander (9) has worked very well since his modest debut according to National Turf workout analyst Andy Harrington.
