A shout out for Mendelssohn

Mendelssohn was the horse everyone was waiting to see here this morning, the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner clearly announcing his presence to the crowd with a few good hollers as he jogged by the grandstand with a trio of his buddies from the Aidan O'Brien barn shortly after the special Derby/Oaks training session ended around 7:45 a.m. Mendelssohn, obviously a bit of a high strung individual, jogged about a mile and one eighth before reversing direction and cantering another mile, remaining on his left lead down the stretch while also getting a little warm, especially during the early part of the session.

Justify was, well Justify again this morning, putting in another eye catching gallop while giving the appearance of a worthy Derby favorite.  Good Magic had another good morning as did Hofburg, both under a strong hold by their riders to keep from doing too much just 48 hours out from the race. Flameaway was a little more subdued than usual today, Noble Indy trained without blinkers this morning, Combatant continues to look good while Free Drop Billy got a little hot in the coat once again.

Bolt d'Oro appeared about the same as the previous morning, taking quite a while to loosen up during his gallop. Audible another who won't please the eye on gallop days, but that's just him. Looks far better 48 hours out from the Derby than he did in a routine gallop a couple of days prior to that huge performance in the Florida Derby.  Instilled Regard is another who just does not look real comfortable but have no real frame of reference there, that could be par for the course for him as well.

My Boy Jack was conspicuous by his absence during training hours this morning, especially since he did little more than jog a mile on Wednesday.

On the Oaks side of the ledger, potential favorite Midnight Bisou visited the paddock then blew out a quarter mile down the stretch in :26 and change.  Wonder Gadot went at a similar clip while kept well out past the middle of the racetrack during what for her has become a routine gallop.  Took her a full mile from the 3/8's pole in 1:55 and change.
