Trainer Brad Cox, who will saddle morning-line favorite Monomoy Girl and two others in the Kentucky Oaks later today, has picked up at least one stakes victory, as his charge Will Call rallied to win the Grade 3 Twin Spires Turf Sprint.
In a race that turned into a cavalry charge in upper stretch, with a half dozen horses within striking distance of the lead, Kid Perfect briefly took command as he split fading pacesetters Riser, on the inside, and Latent Revenge. But Will Call ($15.60) and Shaun Bridgmohan rallied on the outside, nearly in tandem with the closing Bucchero, and outfinished the field to the wire. They hit the wire in 56.68 seconds for the five furlongs.
Kid Perfect held off Bucchero for second. Delectation rallied to be a close fourth after breaking slowly.
This was the first stakes victory for Will Call, who finished ninth in the Grade 2 Shakertown at Keeneland last month in his stakes debut. The Country Day colt had previously finished second in the Colonel Power Stakes at Fair Grounds.
