Done Deal might have been the clear-cut winner of Friday's sixth race at Churchill if the race had been run over 5 furlongs, the traditional grass sprint distance used at the track since the turf course was installed in 1987. But a little extra ground - going 5 1/2 furlongs on Friday - meant he had to share victory with Chiltern Street, who surged in the closing yards to finish on even terms with him on the wire.
The sixth race marked the first time the 5 1/2-furlong distance was used at Churchill Downs - though prepare to see a lot more of them. The Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint and Juvenile Turf Sprint will be run at 5 1/2 furlongs at Churchill this fall, and Churchill intends to card the distance regularly in the interim.
Chiltern Street ($3.20) and Done Deal ($5.40) completed the distance over a good course in 1:04.87.
