Stave, who broke her maiden at Keeneland last month on the grass, scored her second straight victory in winning the eighth race at Churchill on Saturday, a first-level allowance at 1 1/8 miles on the lawn.
A 3-year-old daughter of Ghostzapper trained by Larry Jones, she looked the part of a winner from the start, always under a snug hold while prompting slow splits. Then when asked to run by Gabe Saez at the head of the lane, she quickened away from the field and kept runner-up Deadline at bay by about two lengths. The 7-5 favorite, she completed the distance on a firm turf course in 1:51.41.
The Grade 3 Regret on June 16 on the Stephen Foster undercard at Churchill, also at 1 1/8 miles on turf, seems like a realistic target for her coming out of this race.
