Alex Cintron rode the first winner of his comeback in the fourth race at Pimlico on Friday, when he guided Maru's Raven to victory for trainer Jonathan Maldonado.
Cintron resumed riding Saturday after suffering painful injuries in a Laurel Park spill on Nov. 19, 2017.
Cintron's was aboard Leather Goods, who appeared to clip heels and fell entering the first turn. Cintron hit the ground face first, sustaining a broken nose and other facial injuries. The race was declared a no contest as Cintron and his mount remained down on the track as the horses came into the stretch, and some of the horses were eased.
Cintron's injuries last fall were all the more serious because he broke his jaw in a November 2014 spill at Laurel and metal implants were put in to stabilize the area. He damaged the implants when he fell last year.
Cintron, 30, has 881 career victories. A native of Puerto Rico, he began riding in the U.S. in 2008.
Maru's Raven, who paid $5.80, was the fifth mount of Cintron's comeback.
