Seemingly wide open field of 12 boiled down to the top two betting choices as 2-1 fave Headfirst ($6.50), under John Velazquez, repelled the challenge of J C S Star, the 7-2 second choice. Youth Gone Wild won a four-horse photo fot third which included Goldtown, who steadied sharply on the backstretch and re-rallied to finish fourth.
David Donk trained the winner on the first of 10 races on NY Showcase Day.
