Trainer C.R. Trout said Lone Star Park Handicap winner Shotgun Kowboy remained a candidate for the Grade 3, $300,000 Cornhusker on July 6 at Prairie Meadows as of Tuesday, but he is monitoring the potential field. The front-runner pulled a wire job in the Grade 3, $200,000 Lone Star Park Handicap in his last start May 27, and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 95.
Entries for the Cornhusker will be taken on Sunday.
"As of right now, we're looking at it," Trout said Tuesday. "I hadn't looked at any other options."
Trout said Luis Quinonez would have the mount in the Cornhusker if the horse goes, and plans would be to ship on July 3.
Shotgun Kowboy, a millionaire, has won three of six starts this year, including two wire-to-wire allowance triumphs at Oaklawn. Trout also is the breeder and owner of Shotgun Kowboy.
