Firenze Fire returned to the scene of his finest hour, his half length victory last fall in the Grade 1 Champagne, to dominate the Grade 3 Dwyer, drawing off to a one-sided victory under Irad Ortiz Jr. for red hot trainer Jason Servis. Seven Trumpets outfinished the tiring 3-2 favorite Mendelssohn to be second while never menacing the winner through the stretch. Both Firenze Fire and Mendelssohn were making their first starts since finishing 11th and 20th respectively in the Kentucky Derby.
Firenze Fire completed a mile in 1:33.74 and paid $7.50.
