The Belmont Derby this year looks to be a battle on paper, withseveral horses having strong chances. I’m against ANALYZE IT (3), simply because I’m skeptical of his ability going ten-furlongs; CATHOLIC BOY (7) makes plenty of sense, and of the horses exiting the Pennine Ridge, he’s the one I’d be most interested in. HAWKISH (8) is a raw talent that looks to be figuring things out, but he’s yet to run fast enough to win a race of this caliber, and he’s likely to be an underlay this afternoon.I’m most interested in MY BOY JACK (9) and HUNTING HORN (4); Hunting Horn feels like one of the more likely winners of the Derby this year, entering this race on the heels of an emphatic score at Royal Ascot over firm going. As for My Boy Jack – he’s a talented horse that may be slightly better on turf than dirt, and I figured he’d be a decent price; instead he’s vying for favoritism.
