South Americain ($3.20) was the grinding winner of a $10,000 claimer at a mile in Sunday's fifth race at Los Alamitos. The 4-year-old gelding caught the attention of rival trainers. George Papaprodromou claimed South Americain in a three-way shake from trainer John Sadler.
