Jockey Javier Castellano begins serving a three-day suspension today for careless riding in the fourth race on June 24 at Belmont.
Castellano won the race on Purely Lucky, but came out in upper stretch and appeared to impede Theaterintheround, who steadied under Jose Ortiz and finished fourth.
Though the stewards dismissed a claim of foul by Ortiz against Castellano, thus letting the result stand, they did suspend Castellano for five days “for failure to maintain a straight course with his mount in the stretch and not having proper clearance with his mount in the stretch” after having been previously warned.
The suspension was reduced to three days for Castellano waiving his right of appeal. He will be eligible to ride on Saturday.
