Catapult closed from off the pace to score a 21-1 upset in Sunday's Grade 2 Eddie Read Stakes on a day when longshots offered surprises in several of the nine races.
Ridden by Drayden Van Dyke, Catapult finished a neck in front of 3-1 favorite Sharp Samurai, who was a head in front of 9-1 Prime Attraction.
Bowies Hero finished fourth, followed by Multiplier, Next Shares, True Valour, Fashion Business, Itsinthepost and Hunt. Itsinthepost has won seven Grade 2 races since March 2017. Hunt won the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile at Santa Anita in May.
Catapult, a 5-year-old horse by Kitten's Joy, is trained by John Sadler for Woodford Racing. Catapult was second in an allowance race with a $75,000 claiming option at Santa Anita on June 17 in his California debut. Catapult was previously trained by Chad Brown, and won the Gio Ponti Stakes at Aqueduct in November, 2016.
