Stormy Liberal ($4) won for the first time since the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint last November in an allowance race with a $100,000 claiming option in Wednesday's fourth race.
Ridden by Drayden Van Dyke, Stormy Liberal dueled with the stakes winner Tribalist through the stretch before winning by a nose. The two made contact in the stretch, which led to a stewards' inquiry. The order of finish was not changed. Stewart Grant Baker said Tribalist drifted out more than Stormy Liberal moved to the inside during the final furlong.
Stormy Liberal ran five furlongs on turf in 55.72 seconds. A 6-year-old gelding owned by Rockingham Ranch and trainer David Bernsen, Stormy Liberal has won 9 of 27 starts. Peter Miller trains Stormy Liberal, who will be considered for the $75,000 Green Flash Handicap at five furlongs on turf on Aug. 17.
