Son of War, who returned from a layoff of nearly three years to finish fifth in an optional claimer earlier this month, is the 5-2 favorite in early betting to win a starter allowance at a mile on turf in Wednesday's sixth race.
Trained by Mike Pender, Son of War (7) was 12-1 on the morning-line. In the optional claimer at 5 1-2 furlongs at Los Alamitos on July 1, Son of War was beaten 5 3-4 lengths after breaking to the inside at the start.
Son of War won a maiden race in November 2014 here when trained by Ron McAnally. A 7-year-old gelding, Son of War did not race from July 25, 2015 until July 1.
Aside from Son of War, there is support for Souter (9), who was a troubled fourt in a starter allowance on turf at Santa Anita on June 14.
