Promises Fulfilled, who stalked rather than dueled with Strike Power, opened up a big lead in mid-stretch and easily won the Grade 3, $200,000 Amsterdam Stakes by 3 1-4 lengths over even-money favored Engage. It was9 1-4 lengths back to Barry Lee in third.
Strike Power, Soutache and Old Time Revival completed the order of finish.
Luis Saez rode a smart race, electing to take back off of Strike Power and get Promises Fulfilled to the outside of Strike Power who set splits of 21.28 for the quarter and 43.98 for a half-mile.
Promises Fulfilled took over turning for home and despite wandering to the inside was much the best as Engage simply could't catch him. Promises Fulfilled covered 6 1-2 furlongs in 1:15.18 and returned $5 as the second choice.
Promises Fulfilled is owned by Robert Baron and trained by Dale Romans, who won his second race on the card today. He will undoubtedly make his next start in the Grade 1, H. Allen Jerkens here on Aug. 25.
