David Cabrera, second-leading rider at the Prairie Meadows meeting, has been handed a 10-day suspension by Prairie Meadows stewards for “intentional, rough and dangerous riding” [sic] in the eighth race on July 27.
Cabrera rode odds-on favorite Our Majesty and during a homestretch battle with She’s Our Fastest and jockey Alex Birzer “brought his horse in during the stretch run interfering with [She’s Our Fastest] . . . repeatedly striking [She’s Our Fastest] and impeding … Birzer with his left arm.”
Head-on video of the race shows Cabrera throwing his left rein with an exaggerated motion after steering his mount into close quarters with She’s Our Fastest.
The Prairie Meadows Thoroughbred meet ends Aug. 10 and Cabrera is suspended for the rest of this season and for the first five days of the 2019 Prairie Meadows meet, according to the ruling, which said Cabrera is not permitted to ride in designated races during the term of suspension.
