The Downs at Albuquerque was forced to cancel the final four races on Wednesday night's Thoroughbred card due to a sudden rainstorm that turned the fast track to sloppy for the fifth race, according to an announcement from the New Mexico track. Albuquerque subsequently canceled the sixth through ninth races. Racing is scheduled to resume Friday night.
Albuquerque puts on its marquee Thoroughbred race Saturday night with the runninig of the $200,000 Downs at Albuquerque Handicap. Hence is the 120-pound starting highweight. The horse is one of two Steve Asmussen trainees that will start as chief contenders in stakes on the card. Adore is the 122-pound highweight in the $55,000 Albuquerque Distaff.
