For those who might be pointing to the sunny Saratoga skies and second guessing the NYRA's decision to postpone today's last two races, the Waya and Lure Stakes, until next weekend to preserve the turf courses after heavy rain last night, consider this:
The final time of the just completed De La Rose Stakes, the one race today that did remain on turf, was 1:40.09 for the one mile over a soft inner course. That was 6.84 seconds slower than Seek Again's four year old course record.
The two fillies who decided the De La Rose, Uni and Precieuse, are both very talented are are in no way in real world terms almost seven seconds slower than this course mark. So the final time is a good indicator how slow the turf really is today.
Oh yeah, Uni and Precieuse are both trained by Chad Brown, giving the De La Rose a real deja vu feel since Brown running one-two in a turf stakes feels like it happens a couple of times a week. At least.
