Leofric set a steady pace and held off Term of Art to win the Grade 3, $200,000 West Virginia Governor's Stakes by a head over Term of Art in the lead supporting feature of the West Virginia Derby card on Saturday at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack, and Resort.
Leofric was the third stakes winner on the card following Big Changes and Golden Mischief for jockey Florent Geroux and trainer Brad Cox. He ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.72 and paid $4.20 as the favorite.
