Off the turf for races 1, 3, 4 and 9 today at Saratoga. Races 6 and 8 remain on the turf, which is rated 'yielding'.
There is a carryover in the pick six of over $63k.
In race 5 I'm giving Flatexcel one more chance after failing to fire six days ago vs. better over the kind of wet track he does not like. He ran well in his NY debut over this distance while contesting a fast pace and he ran well enough to beat this field two back when also setting a fast early pace.
Race 6 is one of the remaining turf races. I have been treading lightly on grass this week with the courses appearing to have plenty of 'give' to them and several horses clearly not firing their best shots. I'm not trying to beat Ticonderoga for Chad Brown. He has improved as an older horse and he ran well last time while only second-best to Arlington Million-bound stablemate Almanaar. Aquaphobia seems to clearly be the other horse but he was no real match for Ticonderoga last time.
Race 8 is a $100k stakes for NY-breds over a mile on the inner turf. Goodbye Brockley was run down by Kreesie in one of these Stallion Series races at Belmont but that was over seven furlongs and the added distance of this race appears to work to the advantage of Goodbye Brockley. I thought Codrington had an excuse when catching yielding ground off the claim for Mike Maker last time, but she catches similar conditions today.
