If you wondered why the fractions were screwy or why several horses were eased in Wednesday's fifth race, here is the explanation:
The race was run wrong at the wrong distance!
Scheduled for 1 1-16-miles on the turf, the maiden event for New York 2-year-olds was actually run at 1 1-8 miles.
Somelikeithotbrown, trained by Mike Maker and ridden by Jose Ortiz, won the race by 8 lengths.
The official fractions were adjusted by six seconds to be: 23.69, 47.50, 1:13.50, 1:38.16 with the final time going down officially as 1:50.51.
A tip of the hat to my former colleague and now Equibase chartcaller Dave Litfin for the heads up.
